By Eric Longabardi
In the spirit of the season we started a new tradition here at
The Enterprise Report last year.
It was our first annual MEDIA TURKEY AWARDS!
We are back for our second year!
After serious consideration by an esteemed panel* (not really, about 5-minutes max was spent on this) Actually the winner is a direct selection of TER's editor ERIC LONGABARDI. We do apologize for the delay of a day in handing out this year's award, we were busy gobbling down turkey and the fixin's yesterday and enjoying the new Muppet movie with my child and her grandmother today.
Until yesterday we really didn't think anybody had really earned the coveted award this year. That was until someone sent us a link to an obscure blog that mentioned our mullti award-winning online news site by name. So we of course quickly reconsidered!
We have a winner again this year!
Our winner in a landslide is Jason Lanning, a so-called reporter based in Florida.
Jason it seems didn't like the fact that The Enterprise Report published his mugshot over two years ago (along with a few other media types who had some legal trouble in the sunshine state in the Tampa area) on this site after he was arrested. He also didn't like the fact that other media outlets did the same. Jason has since been cleared of some the charges brought against him. We applaud him getting his day in court. Good for you Jason.
Jason saw fit to republish false, libelous and defamatory material about TER publisher Eric Longabardi personally on a sorry looking blog he publishes. After I pointed that fact out to Jason directly via his blog after being pointed to it, the spineless excuse for a reporter retracted what he had previously published and instead placed a link to the libelous material.
That should tell you everything you need to know about Jason Lanning. He is the kind of joke who should learn journalistic ethics (and journalism itself) before he starts going off half-cocked about what he thinks he learned in the minor leagues of the TV infotainment business.
The story TER published in 2009 about this guy Jason was in a humor feature section we call "Media Mugs: People in the News". What the feature is about, (this is for Jason, since he didn't seem to understand the premise) is a humor feature about when people in the media get in trouble with the law.
We can only guess that Jason didn't get the joke or his IQ is too low to understand the concept. Nonetheless, as with everything we publish on this online news site, it was entirely accurate and fair.
We also would like to point out to Jason that if he feels our publication was libelous or defamatory, he should say so and find himself a good media lawyer. So far he has yet to even contact editor Eric Longabardi in regards to the publishing of the story of his arrest.
We can only guess he didn't get the joke. For the record, TER's publisher/editor would love to see his own mugshot online, problem is he (nor nobody else) has yet to find one! I'm sure Jason will keep on trying, we wish him luck chasing ghosts as well as his own shadow!
But that's OK, inexperienced hack local TV infotainment reporters claiming to be "journalists" is pretty typical these days.
Nonetheless, Lanning has earned our MEDIA TURKEY AWARD for his year!
Congratulations Jason! It's not a Dupont, but it's something for you to put on your resume!
Happy Thanksgiving Turkey!
